Tuesdays

Nowadays there is a lot of media and maybe even an overflow of media. With our interactive video we want to make people aware of this and we want to make them aware of the fact that sometimes peo9ple are so focus on their phone or other device that they hardly pay attention to their surrounding anymore.

During our first brainstorm session we came up with the idea that the user would see a hand holding a phone and the user would have to go to all kinds of different social networks. After about 15 minutes of brainstorming I noticed that nobody was taking notes of our brainstorm session so I quickly took my notebook out and started making notes of what was being said. So after our first brainstorm session we had our basic idea and the message we wanted to tell.

During our second session we agreed that we had to add some other things than Facebook and twitter to make it more appealing and to keep the users attention so what came first to our mind was funny video’s and funny photo’s. We decided to fit these in and started to make a storyboard. Our first idea was to make a central page where you would return always and if you went somewhere the link would be another colour.

We hadn’t come much further so on a Monday afternoon we worked on our project for about an hour. We agreed that our first storyboard would be difficult and we wouldn’t have a real story line so we decided to do it in another way. We made like two story lines and you can switch between the 2 of them with each choice and we also made an escape button that will be visible during the whole video. Then on the Tuesday when we had our idea done we made an fake facebook and twitter account and started making screen captures of the Facebook and twitter reactions and the youtube video’s.

Then last Tuesday I was trying to make a logo for our group here are the first 3 tries, but I still have to improve it.

Monday's

So we first had to decide on a theme and make groups. At first I thought let's do scenario and do something like what to do with a terrorist attack, if you made the right choice you would survive and the wrong choices could kill you or what to do if aliens landed on earth, but when I later heard another group had this idea already I didn't find it that original anymore. So I looked a bit further and came across some people who wanted to do something with media overflow and I joined that group. As all people did we introduced ourselves as a group and not individually, what I noticed was that we all had some programming experience so that wouldn't be a problem.
The Monday after that we had to make a story using the 12 step program. Our story was about a man, Bob, who couldn't live without his electronics and then one day he crashes on an island and he is the only survivor, but there is a naval tribe on the island. At first he doesn't want anything to do with them he tries to get his electronics to work so that he will be rescued and can go back, but it doesn't work. Then he finds a diary of another man that was trapped here and who didn't contact the naval either, but that man was very lonely. After reading this Bob decides that he doesn't want to end up like that man and he approaches some naval after a while he gets accepted by most naval, but there are still a few who don't like him and when the naval find out that he still tries to use technology to get in contact, he still clings to this, he is seen as a devil and to prove himself again he has to undergo the trail and all his electronics are taken away. After he builds his own village on the place the plane crashed and lived there happily with his wife and children he gets in touch with the outside world again. After thinking it over he decides to keep living on the island but he also tries to convince the outside world that their live is controlled by media.
CREATE meets....
I found it very interesting what those people had to say and what they were doing it gave me an idea about what you can do after 3 years of CreaTe and that observing people is very important if you make something. Also the phrase 'game designers might be the architects of the future world'. My idea about this is that it can be true. I think a game designer needs a lot of fantasy and creativity to make a game new and appealing and to make it work, you can let people believe in the world you made. I think that with those skills you can change reality.
And then last Monday we had to present our group idea which you can read about in the post Tuesday’s. We already had made some screen captures so we could already show some things, but we still have to make the trailer.

Long time no see

It was a while since my last post so a lot happened in those 2 weeks. Let's start with the photo we had to show the photo and sit. Other people had to tell what they thought about the photo. For me the photo was a nice vacation photo, but some people though it was about 2 people sitting on the edge of civilasation, because you could only see sand but there were footprints in the sand so there must have been other people who passed there. Someone else thought it was a big cliche a bit like the begining or ending of a movie and they found it strange that the people were wearing sweaters. I found it very interesting hearing what other people thought about that picture, because I wouldn't have thought of it myself and it made me understand that you will not always be around to explain the message you want to tell with something so you have to look at things in a different way to make sure everybody will get the point.
Also this studie is becoming more fun. All the introduction talks are over now and we are starting to do somethings and I finally got photoshop XD (and I already worked with it, good thing there are people around who already have some expirience with photoshop) like editing the typeface that was fun to do and now we have to edit a photo, but I'm still looking for a photo and that will probably take more time then the assigment itself.
